Why this blog?

I wanted to start a blog where people could come to see that walking is exercise. An alternative to running when running isn't an option or an interest.

As a former college athlete, I loved to run. However a herniated disc requiring surgery in 2011 left me struggling to run. After a 16 month hiatus from exercise I started to run again....slowly, and managed to re-injure the same disc. Apparently it is common knowledge that once you have back surgery, running is off the table; this is not something I was aware of and am now paying the price.
While my back is in bad condition I am not in any pain and with the approval of my back surgeon I am postponing surgery number 2 in the hopes my body can reabsorb the injury (yeah apparently that is possible).
So this blog is a dedication to myself and anyone else looking to improve health through walking or other low impact exercise.
